The emphasis in this lesson is on producing the /z/ sound in the middle of words. This sound is often spelled with an “s” rather than a “z”, and it extremely common in the very small words which are some of the most frequently used in English. The /z/ is produced in the same place and manner as the /s/ sound, but with the vocal folds activated to produce voice. Here are some ways you can practice the medial /z/ sound:
