Organizing Principles:

Single Words-as opposed to phrases, this means you build phrases by putting single words together instead of selecting preset phrases, this allows for a much higher number of potential messages , since single words can be added together in many ways

Core Vocab-in every language 400-500 words make up 80% of what people say

Motor Planning-consistent & predictable patterns allow for more fluent use of broad vocabulary and more complex sentence structure

Word Families-associated words are near each other within navigation, includes nouns, verbs, descriptive words,

  • lower case speaks, upper case opens
  • color coded : yellow for pronouns, green for verbs, blue for adjectives, orange for categories of noun

​Specific Training Interests & Questions
1. Social interaction in kinder classroom
2. Produce more complex messages even though he has mostly single word utterances- preteach vocabulary for conversation rich activities,  target sequential single word utterances as well as 2-word utterances for narrative structure. 
3. Learning to regulate voice- practice vocalization in functional ways such as singing, cheering, getting attention.
4. Learning to use device for messages that are also signed- recast messages positively, practice in low-stakes activities, generate class-wide activities that incorporate frequent use of targeted sounds
5. Making more oral sounds- /h/ is the easiest consonant sound to produce.
6. Always integrate a little practice with the lo-tech, eg core boards- it's an important back-up and peers can access core boards easily for modeling
