What we want for our students who are complex communication users:
How to get there:
First steps: 1. Get comfortable with the systems in your environment- identify the different ones you work with 2. Tell the AAC user you would like to practice with them and take turns using their device. If they say no- back off. 3. Find the word "like" and explore the device or communication board and select a symbol of something you like. Then say an oral speech sentence and select the icons or press the cells that go with what you're saying while you're saying it. Ask your partner "what do you like?" and let them answer with their device or board. Take another turn and then have another turn for your partner. Try to take three turns each. Do this with each complex communication user on your schedule at least one time a day.
