The emphasis in this lesson is on producing the /z/ sound at the beginning of words. This sound is often spelled with an “s” rather than a “z”, and it extremely common in the very small words which are some of the most frequently used in English. The /z/ is produced in the same place and manner as the /s/ sound, but with the vocal folds activated to produce voice. Here are some ways you can practice the initial /z/ sound:
1.Practice bumble bee sounds - "Zzzzzzzzz".
2. Practice counting by starting with "zero"

- /z/-Freeze tag- one person is "it" & can freeze students by touching them. Other students can un--freeze each other by touching them and saying "Unfreeze!".
