Basic Stages of Early Language Development (from Hanen Centre)

Discoverer- cry look-reach-babble- typically birth to 8 months
Communicator- points, sounds - typically 8-13 months
First Words User- 10-20 words - typically 12-18 months
Combiner - two-word sentences - typically 18-24 months
Early Sentence User-  3-5 word sentences- typically 2-3 years
Later Sentence User - more than 4-word sentences -typically  3-5 years
